Honoring Our Founder – Robert L. Surprenant, Esq.

At Surprenant & Beneski, P.C., we stand on the strong foundation laid by our esteemed founder, Robert L. Surprenant, Esq.

Robert L. Surprenant is an alumnus of Northeastern University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. His interest in law led him to enroll at Boston College Law School, where he graduated with a Juris Doctor degree.

After having a general practice for many years, Mr. Surprenant elected to shift the focus of the law firm to elder law and estate planning. This shift was sparked when his mother, Germaine, was diagnosed with dementia. Attorney Surprenant quickly found that there was limited support for families trying to navigate the crisis of memory loss. Over time, he distinguished himself as an authority in the field. His commitment to this area of law is evident through his frequent lectures on elder law topics, sharing his knowledge and insights with both peers and the community. Additionally inspired by their experience with their grandmother’s dementia, Bob’s daughter, Michelle D. Beneski, joined the firm in 2003 and his son, Daniel M. Surprenant, joined the firm in 2006. Michelle and Dan assumed ownership of the law firm in 2010. Mr. Surprenant’s influence and values continue to guide our practice.

At the core of Robert Surprenant’s success is his family. He and his wife, Diane, are the proud parents of six children and doting grandparents to nineteen grandchildren. Their family values mirror the ethos of our firm – commitment, integrity, and a deep sense of community responsibility.

Alongside his dedication to the law firm, his family, and the community he serves, Robert has a deep connection to his Catholic faith. In 2019, he was awarded the St. Thomas Moore Award from the Dioceses of Fall River. The award is a long-standing tradition in the Catholic Church, the Red Mass celebrates those who work to promote justice in the legal system.  Although it is an honor that Bob’s dedicated service has been recognized, it comes as no surprise to the team at Surprenant & Beneski, P.C. In addition to being a full-time attorney, supportive husband, and hands-on dad, Bob was also active in government, serving as a member of the Board of Selectmen, Board of Health, and finance committee for the town of Freetown when he resided there. For 11 years Bob, along with his wife, Diane, were also involved in ministering to prisoners in his capacity as deacon to the Church.

As we continue to grow and serve our clients at Surprenant & Beneski, P.C., we remain committed to upholding the standards and values set by Mr. Surprenant. We strive to provide compassionate, superior legal services, just as he did, and to contribute positively to our community, honoring the legacy of our founder.
