Short-term rehabilitation and long-term nursing care across six communities.
MassHealth can cover nursing facility care for eligible residents, but Medicaid participation does not guarantee admission or bed availability. If a MassHealth application is pending, ask about admission policies and whether private payment is required while the application is processed.
Before choosing a nursing facility, review its Medicare Care Compare profile for information about inspections, staffing, quality measures, and penalties.

Sometimes called life plan communities — residents may move from independent living to assisted living or nursing care as their needs change.
CCRCs may require a substantial entrance fee plus monthly fees. What those payments cover, whether the entrance fee is refundable, and how fees may change depend on the contract. Massachusetts makes certain CCRC disclosure documents and residency agreements publicly available.
Because these contracts can involve significant financial commitments, consider having an attorney review the agreement before signing.

MassHealth FAQs
Eligibility and admission are two different decisions.
MassHealth eligibility and nursing home admission are separate issues. A facility may participate in Medicaid but have its own policies about accepting MassHealth residents or applicants whose eligibility is still pending. Before choosing a facility, ask:
MassHealth does not pay assisted living room and board. Eligible residents may receive certain personal-care services through Group Adult Foster Care, including help with activities of daily living, medication reminders, and care management.
Housing costs remain the resident's responsibility, and available assistance varies by residence.
Yes, but admission depends on the facility. Some nursing homes accept residents while a MassHealth application is pending, while others may require private payment.
Before admission, ask how payment will be handled if benefits are delayed or denied. Read all admission and financial agreements carefully, especially provisions concerning who is responsible for payment.

We provide this directory as a convenience and do not endorse, recommend, or have a financial relationship with the facilities listed. Facility services, payment and admission policies, MassHealth or other program participation, government ratings, and availability can change. Confirm current information directly with the facility, MassHealth, Medicare Care Compare, or the appropriate state agency before making a decision.
