AARP Article: Getting a Lifesaving COVID-19 Vaccination

We now have a weapon in the fight against the virus that triggered the most destructive pandemic in more than a century.

The FDA has issued emergency use authorization (EUA) for two different COVID-19 vaccines: one developed by Pfizer-BioNTech and the other by Moderna. Both vaccines are safe and exceedingly effective at preventing disease, studies show.

The vaccine has been offered first to health care workers and staff and residents of long-term care facilities such as nursing homes and assisted living centers. A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advisory panel recommended that adults age 75 and older and frontline essential workers get the vaccine next, followed by adults ages 65 to 74, people ages 16 to 64 with underlying high-risk medical conditions and all other essential workers…
